We have a 2 ton unit that was installed incorrectly when the house was built (before our time). The tech we had out said that we didn't have the right drainage and the evap rusted and is leaking. To replace it he wants 900 for the coil and 450 to install a pump to drain the condensation. Its a horizontal unit in our attic. Is this the right way to go? Couldn't we just have the unit raised on a couple of 2x4s to create slope? He says the code is 3" per 10 feet, so the pump is the way to go. Just a sanity check.

Thanks

mikem

It would probably cost more to raise the unit than adding a pump. I would still recommend raising the new coil since condensate pumps are less reliable than gravity for drainage.
