I have a 7 year old Goodman AC unit that continues to trip the breaker on the service panel shutting down the compressor but the furnace fan continues to run. After resetting the breaker the unit may run for several hours and then trip the breaker again. A local HVAC contractor was unable to find the problem and the power company found no problem with the incoming service. Any ideas on what could be causing this.

Next time the unit runs for a while, feel how hot the breaker is. If it's hot, replace the breaker.

The breaker was replaced but the problem continues.

Does this outdoor unit have a time delay relay or a digital thermostat protecting the compressor from short cycling?
Did your tech measure starting amperage?
Did he remove the compressor terminal cover and inspect for melting wiring?

Yes to all. He said the amperage checked out alright and the contact switch looked ok. No mention of melting wires.

If he measured it, it should be on your invoice. What is your running amperage? What is your starting amperage?

The only thing he wrote on the invoice was that he changed the breaker and added Freon. He did say that the amperage was running around 13. I'm not sure he checked the startup amperage. If he did he did not write it on the invoice.

I doubt that he measured it if it isn't on your invoice.
