Hi, I'm looking for a central A/C unit for a 2750sq/ft home. I'm having a hard time deciding on a brand name unit. They all seem good but how reliable are these cheaper units from the expensive ones? I've been quoted anywhere from $2400 to $5000 for a 3.0 ton unit installed. I'm looking at the Amana ASX14 unit and I have been quoted $3100 installed. Is this unit reliable and at a good cost?

Please help!!!!!!!

Bill

You get what you pay for. Sounds quite cheap to me. Amana and Goodman are the same. Build cheaper builders grade units. Are not too bad mechanically but are noisier, lighter gauge of metal etc. I live in Wpg and a decent Lennox unit will run you about $4000 or more so you can get an idea why the price spread. TO is more expensive so it would be over $4000. I would buy the best one I could afford. If the unit lasts 20 yrs/$2000 it amounts to $100/yr. Pizza and a movie for you and the missus. Have been in the biz 29 yrs and seen them all, prefer Lennox myself. All copper coils and very few problems with evaporator coil leaks etc. For $3100 we get you an Armstrong or AireFlo (Cavalier quality vs Malibu or Buick). The XC14 is a very nice unit

Lennox has different build quality and price also. I like this unit for the grill guards/hail protection, is heavier and quieter. The XC 15 is the quietest of them all. 63 db and we sell a lot of them. Lexus quality.

Boy, I'm glad I'm in the states. The best pizza and movie for 2: about $20 - $25 US.

What is a 'TO' you referred to?

And by the way, neat web cam. I have it up on my desktop in the corner, now. Do you have a date for the blessed event?

Supposed to be any minute now. They were predicting last Thursday. TO is Toronto, Ontario, big big city. To dine out for 2 people and a movie, popcorn, parking may hit $100. Dominos and Blockbuster is less of course. Hope it doesn't rain on the new arrivals, thunderstorm tomorrow. Hope they can wait a day.

Just wondering, I assume that I always see the female sitting on the eggs, but where's the male? Does he ever bring her a snack.

I don't imagine she can leave for a snack.

What's the ambient temp up there?

Read the articles about them (interesting reading) on that page. Both male and female do the sitting. It is anywhere from 40F to 76F here now. They have been thru snow, rain and all kinds of miserable conditions just sitting there. Tough birds.
