I have an old Singer air handler with a White Rodgers digital thermostat the compressor is fairly new and today the blower started cutting out the compressor still runs.

Is line voltage still pressent when this occurs?
Does the fan spin freely when power is removed?
If you answered both questions , Yes, you may only need a new capacitor.

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.

Thanks it was the cap (shorted)
Does this damage the motor at all ?
I got 2 caps from an appliance junkyard (1 needed) and its running now.
I was worried about and old cap being brought up in voltage that quick.
I will buy a new one on Tuesday.
its gone from 91 deg to 87 I can breathe again
