I'm in the process of buying a forclosed house and the blower on the HVAC unit is seized. When I did a walk through, we opened the panel on the Unit, and tried to turn it on, the only thing it did was make a huming noise and the blower never started. It is a Trane XE 60, I'm guessing it is fairly old.
A couple of questions.
One, how much is a motor for this and it something worth replacing? By this I mean, would it be worth replacing this XE60 unit with something more efficient?
I'm either A) Going to replace just the motor; or B) Replace the whole HVAC Unit, along with the AC Compressor and possibly add a heat pump. I would like to get input on heat pumps, their efficiency, etc. I live in northern Ohio, so it never get's extremely cold (in the 20's during the winter), and it never get's extremely hot (in the 90's during the summer).
The house is a 2200 SF, Colonial.
Any and all input would be a great help.
