I have a 6 1/2 year old carrier 48gs, 31/2 Ton for a 2050 sq. ft. house, 10 SEER, (builder grade). Last year, when my A/C wasn't working, I was told I have a leak in my evaporator coil and some rust on the motor. Cost =2700.00 for both to fix. I do not know whether I will be in this house for 6 mo. or 6 yrs (job). It has blown hot once since then, I simply turned it off and thawed it out and it works fine. How long can this go on.
Should I fix, rplace unit with anothe builder grade or like model, or get a newer state of the art AC package system, whatever brand. My electric is 160-200 during summer.
PArt of me wants to keep it cheap; however, the other part wants to sell the property with a true working A/C and not pass on the problem. Any thoughts? Also, Brands? (Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Amana, Goodman, AMS???

I would see who is offering the best warranty. $2700 is too much to spend on your existing 10 seer unit.
"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
