A week after installing a fan/light in my living room, a breaker tripped cuasing the living room (and evidentally the A/C) to go dark. The living room lights and fan were easily turned back on by re-setting the breaker; however, I cannot get the A/C to run again. I can only assume that the A/C has a similar reset button but I have been unable to find it, or unlucky at resetting it. Any direction or help you can provide would be helpful.

Thank you!

Your light and a/c are on separate circuits. It is just a coincidence that it stopped running when you tripped the breaker for your lights. This means something else is wrong and you should probably call a pro. Was the breaker for the outdoor unit or indoor unit tripped? Will the blower run if you set fan switch to on? Do you have a meter?

I am having the same problem. My house has frequent power surges during extreme heat or storms. The lights dim way down and then my A/C breaker starts tripping. The outside compressor is making a low humming noise but not turning on. The copper line is cold and the coils don't look dirty. This only happens during power surges. The last time I had to turn the unit off because it kept tripping the breaker. I called A/C repair and they did something outside which they said was simple and they didn't charge me. I don't recall what they did. It's happening again and I can't get the unit to switch on at all. Any ideas? Is there a reset switch somewhere? It seems like it was something like that. Thanks, Angela

It was the indoor unit that tripped, located in the basement of a condo complex. I've checked the meter but it seems to be fine. Switched the A/C unit to Auto back to On back to Auto and nothing... It seems very strange that it's just a coincidence that it all happened at the same time. But I guess calling a pro might be the best option. Of course, I'm just trying to save some dough by not paying for something that I can fix myself. :)
