We have two Trane rooftop AC furnace combos, live in a high desert climate in the SW. One unit is acting strangely. The air circulation blower turns on and runs for several minutes, then turns off. It repeats this sevral times, then the blower turns on and never turns off until we turn the entire unit off at the breaker. It does this "cycle" without regard to how the thermostat is set, cooling, heating, or off. So, this morning it was cool in the house, temp well below the thermostat setting which was set to cool. The blower turned on and off several times and seemed to be putting out non-cooled air. I turned the thermostat to off, the blower continued to turn off and on. It has done this odd cycling while the thermostat was set to heat, off and cool at different times. I went on the roof and looked at the unit to get the model number and noticed a blower that appears to be for the furnace exhaust was cycling on and off, despite the thermostat being set to cool. Me guess is the electornic control module is bad, but before I pursue that I could use come advice. The tech that was out here said the behavior was "normal" as the unit was heating up in the sun and venting the heated air. I asked him if he meant it was venting the heated air into my living space and he said yes. ??? Odd that only one unit does this and not both. They are identical model Trane units model #s ycco36f1h0bf. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Did he open the unit? Did he check anything with a meter? How much time did he spend looking for problems? I'm guessing No, No, and 5 minutes.

I would like to have that Wanna-be tech explain that one to me. I would suggst calling back the service company and demanding your money back. What an idiot! My guess is that you are a better troubleshooter than your tech.

That is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard in a long long time. You most likely have a short in your low voltage wiring. I doubt that a tech who would say this is normal would be able to locate the short or even know what a short is. You should probably call another contractor. Did they charge you for that? If so maybe they will come back for free. You will still have to pay for repairs but if they're any good they should not charge for the callback.
