Sir,

Just read your entire web site...very informative, thanks. I have a problem with a heat pump unit (Frigedare - spelling might be wrong) that the local AC company seems to be stumped over. The unit has been re-charged (freon), compressor discharge/suction pressures are good (200/60) and we have approx 16 temp difference between air handler intake and system discharge (79F/63F). But, the top floor of the house will not cool down to below 77F and thats with the unit running continously. We did find an attic exhaust fan that had failed and I have fixed it, which cools down the attic significantly (we had previously thought this was the problem)....but the AC current status remains. Have any ideas of what else could be causing this problem? I would appreciate your insight. Thanks...

Thanks
Housmart

I think a 60 suction pressure is lousy considering your house was 79 degrees. Did your tech look at the indoor coil? It may be plugged and restricting airflow although I would expect a higher temp difference if that was the case.
Can you tell me if the larger copper pipe connected to outdoor unit is cold when a/c has been running for at least 5-10 minutes?
Can you visually inspect the return ducts in attic for broken joints? If it's broken and pulling in attic air that will cause this type of problem.
