I'd be SO HAPPY if someone could help me. The t-stat is calling for cooling and the FAN is set to AUTO. But the unit will not come on. If I set the FAN to ON, the blower comes on but no cold air. I am not much of a hvac person but I opened up the unit, pressed the contactor in with a screwdriver--the compressor, condenser, motor all run and i'll have cold air. Anyone have any idea what my problem could be? I think the unit was cooling properly the first warm days(i could be wrong). This is the first summer for my Hunter t-stat. It worked(heated) correctly during winter. could i have wired the 4wires on the t-stat wrong? some have said i need a new motor for the condenser
THANKS

SOunds like a stat issue. If you have the old and it worked before you replaced it,try that it should work and you will know it is the stat or how you wired the new one.It could also be a bad contactor in the condensing unit.Check for 24v at the contactor.Good luck.

yes i have Rc and Rh jumped to each other. if i have it right Rh also has heat/cool 24V supply, Y = cool contactor, W = heat relay or valve, and G = fan relay. whether i have the Y and Rh connected correctly i am not for sure. but heating did work correctly.

OK so your problem is outside. Do you have a meter? If so check for an open low pressure switch. If pressure switch is open do not jumper it out.

I can't find info on that. You will probably have to call a pro anyway but if you wish to continue you will have to read the diagram on the unit to locate pressure switch wires. It is connected to piping inside the unit and looks something like this:

Sounds good to me. Do this: add a jumper from RC/RH to Y. If outdoor unit runs then you have a bad stat.

Does the thermostat have a jumper between RC and RH ?

In my experience Hunter tstats are very poor/problematic and not recommended. Honeywell Focus and Vision Pro are the best. You may have a dud tstat or wired it wrong. If it is a basic A/C there should be 4 wires RWYG to the tstat and matching on the terminals in the furnace or air handler.
