Please help with Goodman 2 ton unit not cooling down enough. Had a 1.5 ton Bryant that cooled good but finally bit the bullet. Replaced with this unit and a variable speed air handler. Installer did put larger copper tubing and added 1 extra vent to another room. Once the temperatures went up to the 90's the unit will not cool the upstairs area below 80. The smaller ton unit did it fine.
Any suggestions? Installer is at a loss...Please help. Hot in SC

Installer got it. Changed some piston in the unit and now it cools great.

Check Charge

TXV (sub-cooling)

High side pressure ____________PSIg

Saturated line temperature
(from temp/pressure chart R-xxx) A._____________F

Temperature of Liquid Line
(smaller, warmer of two lines at unit) B._____________F

Difference between A and B = SC:____________F

Desired Subcooling from Manufacture C._____________F
(if unknown use 12F +/- 3F)

If Subcooling is high (more than 3F) remove refrigerant.
If Subcooling is low (more than 3F) add refrigerant.

Is this some type of calculation for installer to determine charge?

yes, only way for txv system
new system, he weighed in charge, then checked it, right?

edit: formula, no, it's a procedure
there is an air flow procedure
and a super heat procedure

the above (sub-cooling) would be the minimum for new system because, you have correct air flow?

the procedures are not usually given away to non-professionals

let me know if you need anything else

Give it some more electricty! Just kidding. Why did you increase the tonage? What is the outside diameter of the refrigerent lineset, and did the installer adjust the refrigerent charge? Does the blower run at high speed in cooling? Does the air filter snap back into the return if you pull away, or does gently settle back?

increased tonage and added a couple vents to a bonus room over garage. had these same vents with my old unit already. not sure about lineset size. just know it was smaller and when he put the new unit the fitting called for a larger line. He did adjust some settings on the air handler and charge the unit differently but it still will not keep up and the older unit would. Confused why the older smaller could keep up but not this new unit that is larger.
thanks

Maybe you have a broken return duct connection in your attic?
