I was told my Compressor is "frozen up" in my Lennox Condenser Unit Model # HS18-211v-3p. What are my options for repair?

What is the serial# on the unit? I suspect it is getting older and may not be worth repairing. The compressor is seized up, won't run, like a seized up car motor. It can be replaced but will be quite expensive to do so. I am a Lennox tech and can tell you the age once I have the serial#. A hard start kit may be able to be added but it just delays the inevitable replacement.

Thanks. I'll check on the serial#. I do know they are older units though (the other is still running). What needs to be replaced--the compressor, the entire condenser unit, or the whole A/C system? What would be a comparable replacement?

I checked Lennox Davenet and they stopped making those units in 1990. So it is probably 20 yrs old. It is very inefficient by todays standards. About a 6 or 8 SEER. I would recommend a Lennox XC 14 (14 SEER) or higher unit. Don't know your climate as I am in Canada. Cold rainy day today. Check Lennox.com for more info. Been in the biz 29 yrs and like Lennox the best. All copper coils etc. That unit is so old it may spring a freon leak or have other problems after replacing the compressor and then you wasted good $$, plus the electrcity costs are much higher with it. The new unit may save you 20% on your electric bill or more. THe whole system needs replacing (except furnace/air handler). The new units use a different freon R-410 and larger copper lines and different inside coil also. The XC15 is the quietest on the market and Lexus quality. Physically quite large. Let me know if you need more info.

I have two of units (identical models) The one that is not working cools the main level and basement. The other cools the upstairs. (total sq footage about 2,900) I turned on the upstairs air last night to 78. That level only got down to 84 (I did shut the downstairs doors to help keep heat from rising). The air did not feel very cool coming from the vents. Our current temp is in the high 90's/day and 70's at night. We may hit 100 today. Do I need to replace both units with 2 new ones? And should I expect only the condenser units and lines to the inside HVAC unit to be replaced or are other things going to need replaced as well. I just want to know what to expect since I obviously have no clue. You are so much help thanks Yuri!!

They are the same age and probably should be replaced at the same time as the compressor may quit soon on the other one. You should get a MUCH better package price for 2 units. The lines plus the indoor coil and the outdoor coil need replacing. Do you have furnaces or air handlers? I don't see too many air handlers here and don't know if the new indoor coils fit the older air handlers properly. Best to get a reputable Lennox dealer to advise you of that. Hope you can get one soon. The XC 16, 2 stage units require 2 stage air handlers or 2 stage furnaces which you may not have.
