I just bought a foreclosure in Dec. I had to get the freon line replaced because it was stolen when the house was vacated. They put in a new line and freon. The air runs all the time. It only goes off in the middle of the night. The lines froze up Tuesday and they came out and put more freon in it and also said there was a little dirt at the connection outside so they rinsed it off. The unit is only about 4 years old. It's a 2 ton and my cooled space is only 1300 sq ft. The furnace did very well this winter. My highest gas bill was only $106.00. I have put in a new digital thermostat. And I only have the air set on 80. I will not be able to afford to run my air if I cannot resolve this problem. HELP?!!!

How long was it from when they replaced the line to the freon addition. Dirt can sometimes indicate where the freon leak is. Not always as oil gets released when the tech takes off his hoses/gauges. If it is losing freon rapidly you have a large leak and it needs repairing. The tech should pressure test the system with nitrogen to make sure it holds pressure/is leak free. If it low again that is why it won't shut off/will use lots of electricity $$.

saturday i did find air blowing out of the freon line at the connection going into the furnace. i'm assuming that is not a good thing.
