Hi:

I just moved to a new unit. It has a 10 year old Lennox Furnace and a 2 year old Goodman A/C. The electric wire from the A/C is connecting to the EGC circuit in the furnace.

When the thermostat is set to heat mode, furnace works just fine. When thermostat is set to Off and Fan to On, Fan works just fine. But when I turn Thermostat to cool, I can hear some sound for may be 5-10 secs, then the fuse outside the ECG blows. I can reset the same and the same behaviour repeats.

Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks a million!

Thanks
Hari

If it is a Goodman CKL from 2006 they had a bad bunch of contactors in the outside unit I have been changing them all week. They just short out and everytime you call for cool they blow the fuse.

Thank you.. Guess that is the issue. It is a CKL from 2006.

Is this something I can fix myself? Where can I get the parts? I am comfortable with basic wiring etc, but no soldering.

Thanks
Hari

You might also inspect the control wire to your outdoor unit for damage.

If you disconnect the 2 control wires to your outdoor unit (Outside) and the problem persists it would help isolate your problem. (Shown here connected with orange wire nuts)

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.

Thank you very much. Once I disconnected the control wires to the outside unit, even in 'Cool' setting, fuse don't blow. So guess it is an issue with the contactor itself.

Now the question is, where I can get a contactor. The current one is GE B13603-21

Also, If the above GE contactor has fault issues, then what will be a good replacement model?

Thanks a million!

Thanks
Hari
