I have a two zone Carrier HVAC unit. The other day I was examining the air handler and I observed three ducts coming out of the blower side. Two ducts were feeding the two zones I have. The third duct was feeding back into the intake side; basically forming a loop. The loop had a flap inline with it that is governed by a counter weight. However the flap does not move freely. Can someone please explain why one would feed chilled air back into the intake side to be chilled again. What is the real reasson for this loop. Any help would be appreciated.

I was snooping arind the air handler because my house was not being cooled properly. I found a bit of Ice on the A-Frame so I am searching for solutions.

Sorry this message was trapped in a spam box for some reason.

I have the a two Zone AprilAire controller.

I oiled the flap mechanism and it is freed up but how should the weight be set?

If only your smaller zone has a cooling demand, you could damage your ducts without that barametric bypass. I've seen the end of the supply plenum blow off when that damper stuck closed.

It should move. Is it rusted?

Do you have the manual? Is it the Weathermaker

or the Comfort Zone 2 zone?
