There was a strange smell in the house after turning on my AC for the first time. When I opened the furnace there was a puddle in the bottom. Is this the refrigerant? Can I clean up the mess..do I need gloves. It appears to be a clear liquid..water?? I don't think it is condensation. It is the weekend which means no service available till monday..is it safe to breath the air? Any other suggestions?
whats that smell

If it is oil, than it can be a sign that you have a huge refrigerant leak. It is probably a backed up condensation drain.
Water can damage pc boards and motors. It will cost about $50 more to have someone out on the weekened but probably worth it.
