working on package unit w/3phrase compressor , compressor will run for 8 minutes them shutoff on overload ,condensor fan motor stays on /contactor stays pulled in.I have washed the condensor cleaned the evap. I put my guages on the unit suction pressure 65 and discharge 200 then the compressor shuts off I have to cool the compressor with water for 10min then it will come on run for 8 min then shut off. it is not running on reverese . someone please help.

ambient temp 97 i dont have a temperture meter to check the suction line but i put my hand around the suction line warm temperature

duke are you a total dumbass?you know that this thing being so close on the charge isnt going to throw it out on a thermal overload.

It does sound like it is low on refrigerant. It is very hot here in Texas.
That head pressure will probably be 240-265 psig.

So close to what? You think a 200 head pressure is close on a 97 degree day? The space being cooled was probably in the 80's at least, with a high wet bulb if you know what that is. 65psi suction is low, suction line should have been cold, it was warm. You are the dumbass who can't wire a heatpump or locate a short. How many transformers did you replace? Yeah that's what I thought.
A low charge can and will cause a compressor to overheat and shut down on overload.
You are obviously at the point in your career when you don't yet know or understand much and therefore refute something that you obviously never learned. We call that green.
Go back to school before you criticize my diagnosis'.(which is correct by the way). Jerkoff.

You are low on charge. Compressors are cooled with cool suction gas. Your suction gas is warm. Problem solved.
Shame on you for servicing a/c without a temp. device.

What is your suction line temp? What is the outdoor ambient temp?

check the amp draw across all three legs.are you sure it isnt a low or high pressure shut off acting up?

well the compressor gets really hot condensor doesnt even get hot at all
