I have a RUUD thermostat, part # 41-20804-16 being used on a heat pump. I'm looking at the instructions for a Honeywell RTH230B and am confused. The RUUD has connections to R G BY W2 & X. Can anyone help with the conversion?

Your new stst is not compatible with your multistage heat pump. I recommend the Honeywell RTH7400.
Write down your existing (terminal = color wire) combination and turn off power to the indoor unit before replacing your stat. The function of "X" must also be identified. Remove the panel to your indoor unit to verify that the wire connected to X at the stat is connected to C at the air handler. option 170 = 7 190 = 1 240 = 9
A Q674L ???? number on your subbase might help identify the function of X.
Old = New R = Rc & R G = G B = O/B Y = Y W2 = Aux X = ? E or C (common). This should be verified. (Probably C) If no wire is connected to E place a jumper wire between Aux (stage 2 heat)and E (emergency heat).
"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
