Just finished a new house and cranked up the sttic intslled Rheem HVAC unit for first time a couple of days ago and noticed today water dripping thru ceiling... the unit is installed horizonatally with a long drip pan under...the pan has water in it...the condensate drainline runs to the outside thru the fascia and into a gutter...no water seems to be going thru the drain line...however, there is water dripping heavily at the seam of the insulation around the horiontal supply duct; the insulation is foil-faced bubble wrap which sags beneath the duct; this drip is outside the area of the drip pan and the reason for the water coming thru the ceiling. Anybody have an idea what's going on here? TIA

If my BRAND NEW ac was dripping through my celeing, the first thing i would do is call the builder and or HVAC contractor, the last thing i would do is play around on the internet......I bet its a drain issue?

Is it a fancoil or a gas furnace with a separate evaporator coil?

Fancoils require a trap for proper drainge as displayed in this vertical application diagram...

It's a typical electric unit with AC coils...like the unit is pictured in your post, except it's installed lying down which the manufacturer says is ok. I wonder if there is anything the installer is supposed to do to the unit internally before installing it lying down.

To the previous poster, I am a builder. I did call my regular HVAC contactor. The interenet is a goldmine...why are you here?

pull the cover off were the condebsate line enters the unit. They plugged the wrong holes or didnt plug them at all. See in the diagram above that one is mounted vertical? They use a universal evap drain pan. Depending on which method (vert or horizontal) you install it you have to take into account the other methods drain locations and plug them up

The problem has been found and the tips here helped. 1) The drain line was in the wrong hole; 2) the downhill end of the trap was a little high and 3) the unit was slightly out of level on the horizaontal. All those things caused condensate to overflow the internal pan and roll down the ducts and thru the ceiling. Thanks for all you help guys...this is a site worth putting in favorites--some real pros here.
