Our condenser (outside unit) went out a year or so ago. The handler worked fine, though is old. Within the next 5 years, we plan to add another level, so, inthe meantime I do not want to invest in a whole new system. The old one worked fine save for the condenser freezing up.

So... I managed to find a used condenser. The existing condenser is located in an easily accesible area behind the house - can drive a truck right up to it. The house is 1100 s.f. and one story. The Air Handler is in the attic.

How long should it take a tech to drain the freon, remove the old condenser, put the new one on the concrete pad, re-hookup the lines and fill with new freon?!

4 to 6 hours plus travelling time, also depends on how thorough/careful/neat the guy is. You get what you pay for.
