I recently bought a new Trane heat pump. The salesman did a load study and told me I only needed a 2 ton size. I previously had a 2 1/2 ton unit. I have a programmable thermostat and set it to 76 degrees (down from 80 degrees) at 10pm. The unit turns on at about 8pm and takes until 10:30 or 11pm to reach 76 degrees. The outside temp has been about 90 degrees. Is it normal to take so long to drop 4 degrees?

Possibly Yes, especially if it is very humid in your area. The humidity in the house has to drop B4 the temp will drop. I would get the installer to check the freon level to make sure it is okay.

I had a customer insist that it should only take 10 or 15 minutes to drop 4 degrees in the heat of the day.

I wonder how well that would remove humidity if the unit was sized to do that.

Well, he paid GOOD money for it. For that kind of money it should make coffee too. People don't understand thermodynamics just $$. Have you tried those new Testo snake/cameras with TV screen? My co-worker bought one. Has color screen now. $250 CAN.

Wow, that is a fantastic price. I paid $100 more for what looks like a toy compared to that. I think it was even the same brand.
I can't remember how many years ago though. Possibly eight. Progress.

Apparently the price dropped very recently. $249 US at that website. Wish other tools went down also. Getting very popular so price is dropping.
