Maybe someone can help.
I have a Trane XL1000 High Efficiency heat pump (model TWR042C100B3)that the air handler had a leak and was replaced the new air handler (model 2TEC3F42C1000AA)seems to be working OK but know the technician is telling me that the compressor is going bad. My question is - are these 2 units compatible, does it make a difference that the outside unit says "high efficiency" and the inside unit does not, what causes a compressor to go bad, and how long do they usually last?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Fred

You should get a second opinion from a reputable company. If the compressor is compressing then it's not "going bad". Many inexperienced or stupid techs will condemn compressors that are working as they should be because they don't know how to find the actual problem.(probably because they don't measure temperature when servicing a system, or know how to use a multimeter). Don't worry about the mismatch. The system should still run fine. Supposedly 70-80% of condemned compressors are actually OK. One of my many claims to fame is never having condemned a good compressor.
