To anyone who knows: I presume the hex-headed stem valve is in the open position while the unit is running. Does this have to be closed when adding R22, & does one just turn it clockwise & then back to original position after adding the R22? If so, how far to turn the stem - as there doesn't appear to be a definite open/close position? Thanks a bunch.

I would suggest getting someone with some experience to help you charge your unit. Otherwise you will likely be purchasing a new heatpump.

If in doubt call a pro !
