I don't know where to begin-but I will try to explain the install problems for: Goodman Heat pump system: Outdoor Unit: SSZ160361A, Indoor Unit: AEPF426016, Thermostatic Expansion Valve:TX3N4. I had posted a message yesterday about the wrong settings on the variable speed air handler and thought all was okay. However, after testing the the Amana (P/N/1213431) Programmable thermostat I found (by reading the Installer configuration manual) that I could not enter any of the configuration menus i.e. Installer table to set for HEAT PUMP which would give me default values or allow (the Installer!!)to change/adjust some of the values. Since I cannot, by following the thermostat directions gain access to the Installation menu-is it possible that the installer took shortcuts and wired the thermostat in a different manner than the diagram stated. I Checked the diagram for Heat Pump Type 1 (single stage Compressor system which I assume is what I have) There is a diagram for Thermostat upper terminal connections/ Thermostat lower terminal connections. I am assuming if this was connected in this configuration I would be able to access the Installer Table and check/change settings??

I feel the installers (who NOT ONCE looked at the Installation guide for any of the units) took shortcuts because they did not have the technical knowledge to follow the guidelines or were not trained on the Goodman Variable Air Handler sytem/Programmable thermostat. I have the Thermostat set in MANUAL mode and it seems to be cycling as a conventional compressor/maintaining on/off based on set temperature. Since it is set up in other than the suggested steps in the user manuals my question is: Am I getting an SEER 16 rating or am I NOT saving Energy?? I knew absolutely NOTHING about Heat Pumps 1 week ago. I felt so UNEASY watching the installers(not looking at the Install Guides) that I studied these guides which led me to the conclusion that I have been SHORTCHANGED. I'm sure I don't have an expanded knowledge as the experts here on this forum, but I do need help in dealing with this. I actually had to write on a piece of paper the Dipswitch On/Off configuration to get them set the airhandler to match the 3 ton compressor. Any thoughts/recommendations from Duke/Yuri etc. would be appreciated. It is so frustrating because if I call them back and they come to my house, I have no confidence that they will solve my problem!! Whew-sorry for the lengthy post.

i have never let a cust see me enter the back programing because with out the install guide you cant do anything with the exception of messing it up
set it to cool if the big pipe gets cold your good and on heat the big pipe gets hot your good besides that the only other thing they could have messed up is your secound stage resistance heater if your in cold climate i have seen that jumped to the first stage your heat pump this will destroy your heating eff and is recomended in the amana instal guide when you dont use a outdoor t-sensor so in rare instances not reading the paper knee pads is a good thing

Thanks, however, if i have the install booklet/configuration which they DID NOT USE and I studied it why can't I access the install guide on the programmable thermostat by pressing program then fwd/back at the same time to enter the the user configuration menu? If I couldn't then they DID NOT. Commmon sense tells me that they didn't wire it to access it. All they did was set it on AUTO.Heat/Cool. Maybe I'm paranoid but I don't appreciate unprofessionals. Thanks again for your reply. But I feel better that at least even thought they didn't follow the installer guide nothing is really going to be a problem (cold thick pipe/warm thin copper pipe)??

Yes-that's the same instructions-however when I press and hold for 3 secs it will not take me to the first item on installlers table. Thanks - It must be wired so as not to access it. I have the tstat set to auto hold and I am having no problems. I just wanted to be ASSURED that it was set to HEAT PUMP and not MULTI STAGE AIR? Any thoughts as to a future problem?

If not properly configured you will run your electric heat strip with stage 1 heat demand along with the heatpump. That stat does have a reset button.
