I have a Goodman 2 ton 1999 Model# CPKE24-1AB that the compressor has went out on. This is a split unit heat pump [10 SEER] The only thing I can find is a [13 SEER] unit. I have had two quotes to replace the unit one of $1650 and $2100. To replace the outside unit only. Not the inside air handler. I check with an "Internet" wholesaler for a Goodman 2 ton [13 SEER] unit for around $929.00 S/H. I was told by the Internet wholesaler that I would have to replace both units [around $1600 with S/H]or it would not be compatible and quit working prematurely. The two other quotes never mentioned this and stated they would give me a 5 year warranty. Any thoughts regarding these opposing views, Thx.

How hard is it to change a compressor and do I need to perform any other services from "cause and effect"? like dryers etc., and where can I obtain one? for this model are they available online?

you will need a suction drier.as far as how hard it is to change a comp. its not that hard at all but there are many tools needed for this and the resources to buy the comp.,refrigerant,ect.

if i was you i would either go to a whole system upgrade with the 410a or i would just change the compressor.you cant use a 13seer cond. with a 10seer a-coil

there both right contractor prejudge just like anyone else and realized you might be price shopping and wanted to keep it low
the seer rating has to match to acheive the listed eff. in fact if they are mis-matched your seer rating will be around 8 and remember if you compessor burned out you have to replace the lineset to because when you heat up r22 it becomes an acid and if exposed to the new compessor it will cause damage ps go to 410a after 2010 r22 will be banned and if you have problems after that you pay through the nose or upgrade to 410a at that point
