My 6 year old Lennox HSx 12 has a burnt out compressor motor. I have already spent appx 1000 over the last 6 years on this system in repairs and replaced the compressor once.

Now it will be 435 plus cost of 410a to fill or I can replace with a new model for 2600 (13 seer) 2900 (14 seer).

I hate to spend more money on the existing system as it has been a lemon. Current company claims it was not the unit but the original install and Lennox makes a good product.

I am in Michigan and use it about 4 months per year and will stay in this house 10+ years likely.

Can anybody give me some sound, practical advise?

Thanks, LJ

i dont like a lennox i wouldnt fix it i would replace it with anything other than a lennox.but that is just my opinion some like chevys some like fords.i would recomend a goodman r410a unit it will come standard with a 10 year parts and a lifetime warranty on the compressor and for 300 more bucks you can get the labor for ten years as well.try to get a warranty as good as that.

I would also replace it. A good warranty and a proper installation are easily as important as the brand you choose.

Watch out for bootleg Joe who'll slam it in on a Saturday morning for dirt cheap. You get what you pay for. Find a reputable dealer.

It is a 12 SEER and you are not getting much of a efficiency increase by going up only 1-2 SEER. Lennox makes a very good product. Been servicing and installing them for 30 yrs. I would like to know what they said is causing the failures and what the repairs have been. Unless the failure problem is corrected then any brand of unit will fail. If it is poor airflow, duct size issue then that has nothing to do with the brand. If the original installer got moisture into the system then the repair co needs to clean the lines out properly and put a suction line filter drier on and possibly use the Rx11 flush kit to flush the lines also.
