(Greetings,
I am a new user, please pardon stupid questions.
Will leaving the blower on constantly harm the fan motor? I am doing this until the expansion valve on my unit (Trane/American STD.) can be replaced. The evaporater coil freezes up if the fan is allowed to cycle as usual. With the fan on continually, the coil thaws out between compressor cycles.
Regards,
ebc)

Well, the expansion valve was replaced (it was installed incorrectly from factory), the unit recharged per procedure, and all seemed well. About 3 hours later, evaporator coil iced up again. I had to go back to leaving the blower fan on again. We (the tech and I) are stumped. This is a new install on a new build (ductwork and all). One observation; even with a new filter, there is a lot of negative pressure on the return side. I wonder if I am getting enough return air to balance the cooling cycle. (There is a main return and two extension returns which are pretty small).
Any ideas?
Thanks,
ebc
P.S. The temp and humidity have been quite high this past 10 days. No problems until now.

Wow that sucks. It sounds like the installers "dropped the ball" by either oversizing the system or undersizing the duct. No txv replacement will fix that. If that is the problem then the only soulutions would be to add ducts, or replace system with a smaller one. Sometimes returns can be enlarged depending on location.

I removed the filter last night and the system seems to be doing fine. It was pretty cool last night and the humidity is down. Will know more this evening after a the house heats up. The filter is a 20x25x5 media filter (Purolator 2000). The system is a 5 tonne XR13 Trane servicing 2500 sq. ft. with a high ceiling. I think the return duct is 16".
Thanks again,

16" sounds small.

Dont quote me on the unit size, I dont have the model number in hand right now. It could be a smaller unit. Anyway, its the R410A model.
