On my new heat pump installation the thick cold pipe was insulated. The thin warm pipe was not insulated (inside unit and outside unit}. Is there a reason they did not insulate the warm pipe (thin pipe)?

It would lower the efficiency of your system and increase your operation cost.

So, are you saying it SHOULD NOT be insulated? I assume not insulating it would help disperse the heat or am I not understanding your answer? Thanks for your help.
One more question: The installer said that he wired the heat to always come on in Aux. mode (call for heat?)so that it would always blow hot air as opposed to the lukewarm (feels cool but raises temperature)air when the light is not lit. Our trane was efficient but sometimes uncomfortable when heating with the "cool air" of regular mode. Is this okay to have it wired this way? Thanks again for your help.

The 3/8 inch liquid line should not be insulated.
I think that 2 stages of heat will always initiate with Stage 1 heat demand because he could not enter configuration mode either.
Have you tried the reset button? You would have to reconfigure after pressing it, but it might allow you entry. If you cannot enter configuration mode you probably have a faulty stat and should demand a new one. It is an impressive stat though.
