why is my question? I have a ritetemp thermostat. I recently changed it. Thinking that was the problem. IT wasnt. The target temp on this one is set to 74 once it hits 74 it should cut off but doesn't. any suggestions?

Poor choice in thermostats due to pricing and quality of electronics. I recommend the Honeywell Focus or Vision Pro type. If the unit is low on freon/dirty or needs some other maintenance work done to it that may the problem also.
