My house is about 2600 SQFT with 5 bedrooms. The house cools fine and hemudity is fine as well. A few supply registers in the house are noisy...air rushing out and quite annoying. Other registers in the house are fine. The noisy ones are located closer to the actual handler which is in the garage.
How is this fixed? Make the supplies bigger, bigger flex duct?
A baffle? Please help!!

If the noise is from the velocity of the air through the register you need to add a damper where that register's duct comes off the main trunk. Another possible solution is to buy a reducer, say 6"to 5", remove the supply register grille and insert the reducer. The goal is to reduce the volume of air at the supply register grille.

If the noise is from vibration, insert a section of flex duct preferably after any 90 degree elbow. If the duct is a straight run from the main duct, try and have a gentle bend in the flex.

thanks...the noise is from air velocity. We increased the unit from 4 to 5 ton unit. Where can I get a damper or a reducer if I wanted to install myself?

Any HVAC store like Johnstone supply or McCalls will have those. I thing you may also find them at Home Depot, at least the reducer.

The reducer may be easier because you don't need to open the supply at the main trunk to insert the damper. If you remove the supply register grille, depending on the feed, you may be able to simply press-fit the reducer in place... 5" (or 4") end pointing away from the register(back toward the furnace).
