I Came home yesterday and the house was 88. I walked outside and the condenser fan was not moving and the motor was humming. I pushed on the blades with a stick and they started turning, but the wrong direction. My brother said I needed a new motor and purchased an A.O. smith universal motor. On my trane unit motor there was 3 wires. Brown, Black, and purple. On the new motor there are 4 wires. Brown, Brown/white trace, black and white. He could not figure out how to wire them... Also the new motor came with a cap. Can any one tell me how these should be wired together?

If the old motor was connected to a dual capacitor, leave the old capacitor's Orange connected to H and red connected to C.
(only remove the 2 wires that went to the old motor)

Connect the new white to the contactor red point and black to the contactor black point. the 2 brown wires connect to opposite points on your new capacitor.

Ok. I have the fan wired correctly. Thanks for that diagram. That was perfect. It seems to be moving alot of air and in the correct direction. But I have no cold air inside? Is there a reset for the compressor somewhere or has it burned out? How can I tell?

The compressor can be cooled with a water hose.(Remove power first)

If the old cap was a dual cap, you must leave it wired to C and Herm for the compressor to work. You would end up with 2 caps.
