My Luxaire AC seems to want to activate the heat AND the AC simultaneously. I was told it was the Rodgers Control Box (50A50-241). The board is $187 and it may not be the problem. Has anyone heard of this symptom?

I've never had that service call (for a gas furnace) however I suppose it's possible. Could also be a defective thermostat or a short in the thermostat wires. It will become a disaster if that board gets replaced, then the problem happens again. This is because it can destroy your compressor
Was your technician guessing or did he witness the problem and verify the cause with a meter?
Did he check the stat wires for a short?
Did he test the thermostat?
Personally I would have licked that call in about 5-10 minutes. When you say "it may not be the problem" it suggests that the tech was unsure of his diagnosis. Given that this should be an easy call you may want to get a second opinion.
