we just got home from vacation and we had left the a/c on (not too low) for the dog. we noticed it was still warm in the house so my husband checked the circuit box. the breaker was off for the compressor. we put it back on thinking everything was fine. but an hour later it was still pushing around warm air. when we went outside to look at the compressor, we noticed it wasn't running. we are novices with this stuff and have no idea what's going on. it is a rheem high efficiency unit. our neighbor mentioned a reset button. is there such a thing? thanks for any help you could give us. we (and our 2 kids) are sweltering tonight!!

seems to me there is a loose connection somewhere, if you know anybody that has a volt meter and knows how to use it I would recommend them coming over and checking the condenser to see if its getting power. Sounds like a very simple problem to fix but if you call an A/c tech they will charge a few hundred for a five minute job more than likely

A 5 minute job for a pro with a fully stocked truck and proper trainimg might take longer for a novice with a meter.

Most likely tripped the breaker again. If not there may be a red reset button near the piping connections on outside of the unit. Either way you will be needing a pro.
