I have a well-mclain AB66J oil boiler with a domestic hot water coil.. It runs all summer to provide hot water for two people. Made sense when oil was .50 a gallon. My oil service man says if I shut down the furnace for the summer and install an on- demand electric water heater, the boiler will rust out and self destruct. Is he blowing smoke or is this a fact?

Nonsense. Your boiler is a closed loop and has a heater coil in the Hwater tank. Does not mater if the boiler is running. Not circulating water thru the water tank may cause some corrosion but I doubt it. We have oil fired boilers here and they are shut off and none blow up in the Fall from lack of use. You should get the expansion tank drained periodically or have a bladder type tank installed. He wants to sell you oil and keep busy. Probably has shares in the company.
