I recently had a new American Standard "Heritage 13" heat pump installed in my home. It works great, as far as I can tell -- runs quiet and puts out cool air.
Sometimes when it shuts off, it will make a high pitched sound like a squeak or a ping as the fan spins down and stops. It doesn't happen every time and doesn't seem to be related to anything in particular. Sometimes it happens when the day is hot, sometimes not. It seems pretty unpredictable.
Is this something I need to worry about?
Thanks...

it is the check valve in the evaperator or air handler. is it so high pitched it is hard to pin point?. valve is a slightly thicker tube about 3/8 inchdiameter and 6 inches long in the air handler. The ball in the valve is steel. get a magnet and touch the valve when it squweels. run with panel in place but unscrewed and after 10 min of run time stop and wait for sound then try magnet. it must be replaced.
Be good to your fellow man not nice there is a difference.
