I live in a 3-bedroom condo in the downtown area and the air vents in this place are so ridiculously loud, I get woken up every night each time the blower turns on. I was told by the maintenance manager in the building that there is nothing you can do about it. I think this is b.s. I know there has to be something wrong. The air just turned on and it sounds like a jet plane just landed in my living room. I know that there is one central system for the building and we share the heat which is dispersed electricly through each unit but there must be a problem with the individual blowers themselves or not enough vents, i don't know, how do I start to tackle this problem not knowing anything about heating and air, etc? Any suggestions will help.

I get woken up every night whenever the air starts blowing out the vents.

Check the sound of the vents in a similar neighbors unit. There may be nothing wrong with the sound of yours and it may be normal. If there is nothing different about yours than the neighbors you may have to leave a radio on or buy a white noise (wave noise) generator or use earplugs or move.
