almost fainted at a $715 elec bill this month. we have a pool that uses elec but i'm thinking its mostly the a/c. just moved into this 14 yr old home with all original hvac equipment. i know we need to replace the unit to get more efficiency but what seer should i look at so that the unit saves me money quicker? its a 2800 sq ft house 2 story. is a 16 or more seer really going to pay off over its life of 10-15 years or is a 13 seer my best bet?

if you are paying anything near what i am paying per KWH than there is no way even if your ac never shut off that your bill would be that high do to your ac.

When I went from a 10 SEER to a 14 SEER 3 ton unit, it dropped my bill $88 a month.

I went from a 8 seer to a 15 seer and didn't save a penny. Maybe even higher now..

Yes, but you have a problem with the new unit. I'd say restricted feeder tubes.
