Hi,
Our furnace was trying to light this morning but would lock out and give the 2 flash code. It was 8 degrees C early this morning, good thing this happened during the summer...
Anyway, I checked the safety circuit for continuity through the 2 flame roll out switches and temp. cutout switches. I also checked that the 1st stage pressure switch closed when the inducer fan started. The igniter would light, but the gas valve didn't seem to be doing anything. I checked the power to the gas valve and found 24v after the igniter got hot...
Ok, let's try this again, so I reconnected the gas valve connector and let it go through the startup. This time I tapped the gas valve and it opened and lit normally.
I guess I'm wondering if the gas valve is something that could be cleaned or lubed or should I have it replaced? Could there have been a piece of something stuck in it?
I tried it a few more times and it seems ok now. It probably won't fail again until it's -30 out. :)
Sorry for the long post.
Thanks, Jeff

I recommend checking the gas supply pressure to the unit, and to the manifold to make sure they are adequate, also verify that there is a drip leg to trap water or debris. This should be located right next to the furnace. If these conditions are Ok then replace the valve. A safe bet would be to replace it reguardless of these conditions however if there is no drip leg one should be added, if pressure is low then something else needs to be fixed.

Have the valve replaced. If it is sticking then it may stick ON and the furnace may run wild/not shut off. It will only get worse. I lived in Calgary and it does get cold, almost as bad as Winnipeg.

Ok, thanks guys.
There is a drip leg installed. I'll have it checked to make sure it's not full or something... house is 40 years old.
A compatible 2 stage valve is around $140 locally, which isn't too bad I guess. This one lasted 9 years.
Thanks, Jeff
