Just had new Trane system installed, XL16i heat pump, 4TEE air handler, TCONT803 thermostat, and Clean Effects TFD260 air cleaner. I have two distinct questions:

1 - How should I optimize the humidity setpoint against the temperature setpoint? Here in the muggy south, the ambient humidity rarely drops below 85% during the summer. The range on the humidity setpoint of the Trane unit is 40% to 80%. I've currently got it set at 55%. Any thoughts on the most optimal/efficient balance of humidity vs. temperature settings? I assume that the 'cost' of lower humidity is increased air flow, but it's not exactly clear to me how the unit controls both humidty and temperature at the same time. Any insight there will be greatly appreciated.

2 - With the Clean Effects unit on the air handler intake, should I still use an air filer on the air return inlet? I got two different opinions from the vendor. The salesman said no, let the Clean Effects do the work and clean the primary mechanical filter in the Clean Effects unti once a month. The crew chief on the install crew suggested leaving the existing filter in place as a pre-filter to the Clean Effects unit.

Thanks...Tom

I'm not a big fan of overcool to dehumidify (Even though I have that stat).

If you do not use at least a polyestor foam filter at your intake grill, your return air duct will become very dirty over time. If you use a pleated filter at your intake grill, it will provide too great a restriction for your ducting. It will raise your duct static pressure from the desired .5 inch water column to closer to 1 inch.

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
