I currently have a 24 yr old Whirlpool 92% eff 80k LP furnace w/ 3 ton Whirlpool ac unit. Furnace is sized correctly and works fine, but ac is oversized and does not dehumidify completely.

Due to outrageous LP prices, I am looking at putting in 2 heat pumps a 3 ton for heating and a separate 2 ton for both. I will replace the furnace next year.

I am looking for advice on sizing of A coil and interconnection of the heat pump units, multi-stage thermostat etc. Also looking at adding a electric heat coil in plenum as another backup.

I know going with a single smaller heat pump will not provide enough heat in winter or a single larger one will not dehumidify properly.

Looking for advice

Why not use a 2 speed heat pump? It would fit the bill and save you thousands.

I know that with Carrier, two options are available.
A scroll compressor with an unloader runs at 2/3 capacity in stage 1 cooling. A Bristol 2 speed runs at 50% capacity in low speed.

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
