11 year old tempstar condensing unit with aquatherm air handler.chemically cleaned both coils.230 high side,78 on low side,9 degree superheat,wet bulb is 60,outdoor ambient 90 degrees.59 degree in plenum,62 at supply,75 inside house.between 12 and 6 system wont pull down below 80 degrees.other than a little higher than normal suction pressure what could be the problem or is it time to upgrade.almost forgot 1200 square ft.home 2.5 ton system.thanks for any input

A high suction pressure and low superheat sounds like an ovecharged system.Reclaim the refrigerant and weigh in the charge and see what happens. Now 11 yr old unit is getting old, I would start putting some money away for a new system.

Well, for starters, you got a ductwork insulation problem, if you are loosing three degrees from the plenum to the register. Also sounds like you need a bit of freon.

Measure your reurn air temp at the grill and entering the air handler for signs of a return air leak.

Everyone seals them at the unit but some do not seal the return air duct at the ceiling or chase.

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
