I have been doing some research and was quoted some prices from a few authorized vendors. My question is this:

One vendor quote the same price for the R-22 and Puron models (Comfort 13) of $4900 and another vendor priced the R-22 unit for $4000 and $4600 for the Puron unit. This includes all the labor and yada yada. Is the construction different? or is there something that could justify the difference?

The Puron (R-410A) system is a higher price normally. Some dealers do get a little better pricing than others, though, so that difference sounds fairly normal.

The contractor may be planning on re-using your lineset if you use r22. If you switch to r410a, you will need a new lineset. That sounds like a 600 dollar difference to me for time and material but this is only speculative. I recommend 410.
