I recently bought a home with Goodman central air and we haven't been able to get the darn thing to start since we moved in it. The user manuals emailed to me from the manufacturer didn't help. Any help would be appreciated.
New house and strapped for cash, can't afford to pay for a service call if it's something that I could do myself.

air unit outside the home has 4 colored wires(red, yellow, brown and purple) at top and two blacks and two reds at bottom. Can anyone tell me whether this could be the problem?

Thanks

Not enough information.

Does the indoor fan run with stat demand? The outdoor unit?

If nothing runs, reset every breaker in your panel. (I have yet to see a homeowner that can identify a tripped breaker, but maybe the one that can don't call me)

If that doesn't help...
Do you se any damage to the small brown stat wire between the condenser (outdoor unit) and the house? If so seperate and insulate with electric tape and replace the low voltage fuse in the indoor unit.

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.

Yes, the indoor fan runs with the stat but the outdoor fan doesn't come on at all.

I reset every breaker and still nothing.

I looked at the brown wire outside coming into the house and everything seems fine.

Maybe the previous owners did something to it before they left, they weren't too happy with the sale. Could they have disabled it somehow?

If you know how to use a volt meter, get one and verify there is power to the unit (outside at the unit). If you have no idea how to check voltage, then you're gonna have to kidnap someone or buy some beers for a buddy that can do it. Or you could learn by googling how to check voltages.

Next trace each wire from the thermostat to the furnace and outside to the outdoor unit. Ask Goodman for the installation guide so you can get some idea what and how many wires are needed, and were they should be connected to the furnace and outdoor unit.

It sounds like at least the fan wire is working, but that usually only runs from the tstat to the furnace and not outdoors. You're probably looking at a broken wire, or no power.

If everything checks out you're then looking at a bad controller board for the unit or something else internal.
