Hello all. I have a goodman or genetral modle a36-10 unit. It has been working fine until somtime last night. I woke this morning to a hot house. The outside unit doesn't come on at all, the indoor unti fan kicks is working fine any suggestions( relays to check and how to check them, checking the cirsuit card, etc...)?

Pull the 220 volt disconnect to the outside unit. Now call for cooling. Go to the outside unit and listen where the electrical wires enter the electric compartment. You should hear a hum from the contactor. If it's totally silent, check the thin control wires coming from the house to see if they are damaged. If you hear a hum, skip to the last paragraph.
If all looks good, go inside to the furnace/air handler and find where the thermostat wires connect to the furnace control board. Now with a call for cooling at the thermostat, check the ac voltage between the Y and G connection points. Is there 24 volts? If not, check the voltage between the R and C terminals. Let us know what you find.
If you do hear a hum at the outdoor unit then it's possible the contactor or capacitor is bad. If you're electromechanically inclined we can go further. Or else you can call someone.
