Got this quote:

PRICE: $45,150.00
45 Grand? That seem reasonable?
Plus, I wanted damper controlled zones and contractor says "not necessary...system will be "quiet" and efficient with excellent humidity control.
Any opinions or advice??

Oops!! I may have spoken too soon. I asked a couple of co-workers, with more experience in large houses, and was told that that price sounds about right on the money. But I would still skip the air cleaners, and dampered zones. Every extra piece of equipment you put in is an extra opportunity for a future service call.

$45,000 for 5300 sft? I wanna work where you live. You're being oversold. Air cleaners are WAY overratted. You're better off with seperate systems, rather than zoned. Zoned systems are bells and whistles that will go wrong. Speaking for SC, we could put in two split systems, and a mini split for a FROG, or other awkward area for $15,000, tops. An easy way to tell if you're getting screwed?...thermostats run about $50 cost...

If you are unhappy with that quote, get more quotes.
The going rate in other states will not help much.
