I have a Carrier 58MVP furnace with a Carrier 38 TXA a/c unit.
The a/c came on all by itself with the thermostat in the off position.
The only way to shut it down is at the circuit breaker.
I've turned off the switch at the furnace to attempt to reset it to no avail. Ive also replaced the thermostat and have the same problem.
Please Help!

Marty

Probably a short in the stat wire between the stat and the furnace. Try removing R at the furnace.

OK ...and then what, leave it disconnected?

If removing R works, you may need to locate that short or pull wire.

Thanks for the prompt replies!!
Can I remove the R at the thermostat instead of the furnace? (the furnace is in a crawl space and not that ease to work on)

Thanks again for your input.

You can try it. I doubt that it will work since you have already replaced the stat and the problem persists.

Your stat wire has probably rubbed into a short (or been chewed upon).
