We just had an apparent "brown" out about an hour ago. We then noticed that the inside house temperature was starting to go up. Checked the Carrier 24APA 336A300 unit out back and found it was off. Checked the circuit breakers and the whatever switch at the unit (knife blade switch) and found them to be fine. I shut the unit off at the thermostat for about 15 minutes and when I turned it on the compressor came on for about 15 seconds and then shut off (the fan blade was turning).
Our other Carrier heat pump unit is working fine for our 2nd floor.
So what is up? Do I need to call the installer? Our house and this unit was new as of last November 2007.

Possibly blown the run capacitor or other problems. Call and see what they have to tell you.

Talked to the installer - he instructed me to re-cycle (flip the breaker for about 30 seconds)the air handler/gas furnace unit in our craw space to re-set the electrical controls for the A/C compressor.
That worked - we are back in the cool! Thanks for your response.

Just to clarify are you saying that the compressor shut off and outdoor fan continued running? Or outdoor fan stopped as well?
