Hello
I want to replace my baystat240 with a programmable unit. Based on what I have read so far I believe my trane heat pump is single stage cool, two stage heat with aux heat and an emergency heat switch. Heat is elec. The units I am currently looking at are Honeywell rth7400 or 7500....or the vision pro 8000 model th8320U1008. My wiring on the old unit is as follows:

R red
T brown
O orange
G green
Y yellow
X2 white and jumped to W
B Blue

I know that T wont be used and I know the B is common but the white wire to X2 and jumped to W is killing me. Everyone else in the known world seems to have a black wire running to X2 and the white to W. I am unsure how to wire a new unit and I need advice on what the best model would be.
Any help will be much appreciated

I would personally go for the Pro8000 (1008) model, since this is the contractor model. This model you can program off the wall, re-attach and let it run.

Some installers did not run seperate wires to the heater strips (X2 is emergency call and W is for standard call). They only used 1 wire and jumpered it like yours. You are right about the connections you listed. Tape off the T wire. Be sure to turn OFF power to the INDOOR unit (you could have more than 1 breaker/fuse connection) before starting the change.

Thank You for posting so quickly. The info you gave is very helpful. I dont have the new thermostat yet so just to make sure i understand....I will want to connect the white wire to the appropriate terminal for emergency heat and then jump it to the standard terminal just like the old one?
