"Installing a Honeywell T8011R Thermostat?" , posted Tue 22 Jul 09:39user profileedit/delete messagepost reply

I am trying to wire a Honeywell T8011R Programmable heat pump thermostat. I have a TEMPSTAR heat pump outside unit model # N2H3Y2AKA100. I have a Zone controller in the attic which is a Honeywell Universal Mini Zone TrolATemp. Zone 1 on the controller has the following connections: R, C, E, W1, Y1, G, W2, Y2, O, B, L. With my current stat (T8400C), white, yellow, green and red wires are connected to R, W1, Y1, G on the controller. Orange, blue, black and brown wires are left unused on both ends.

The new stat (T8011R) has the following connections: R,W2,L,B,O,W1,G,C,Y,E.....W1 and Y are factory jumped. Can someone help me verify if the following wiring is correct for the new stat?

Controller T8011R Stat
White to W1 W1
Yellow to Y1 Y
Green to G G
Red to R R
Blue to C C
Orange O O
Black
Brown

Not sure what to do with the black and brown wires or the factory jumper between W1 and Y. Any advice would be appreciated.

DSB

Your old stat used 4 wires: red, white, yellow and green.
If you connect every wire you have on your new stat, you risk creating a short. This can quickly eliminate any savings you had on your new thermostat.

It appears that you do not want my opinion so I will refrain from further responses to your post.

I do value your opinion. In my first post, you asked me to get the model numbers of the heat pump outside unit and the wiring info off of the zone controller...so that you could verify that my unit does not require a heat pump thermostat to operate. I got the info, posted a new thread so it would show up at the top of the list, and no one responded after a few days. Thinking maybe you were off line for some reason, I re-posted yesterday...hoping you, or someone, would respond. So I only should wire up the four wires, plus the common and remove the jumper?

Yes, removing the W-Y jumper and adding common will work.

Wiring the zone system with that heatpump stat any other way would probably require reconfiguration, which I cannot help with without the zone system model number (need the manual from their site).

Do you have a model number for the honeywell zone system?
