have 2 systems one is 2 yrs old the other 11.same symptoms with both units, high suction(82-84 psi)slightly low head(225-240psi)95 degree ambient head should be at least 260psi.weighed in charge on both systems superheat dead on.coils on both systems are clean.only getting 10-12 degree delta t both systems have plenty of air flow and duct work is in good shape.enough said im thinking compressor problem, dont think its a piston problem because superheat is right, any opinions or advice greatly appreciated.

I'm curious about the indoor dry bulb and wet bulb temps. Where did you measure the delta T? 82-84 psi is not neccessarily high depending on the load. The head pressure could be OK, why should it be at least 260? It's hard to say if or what the problem is with the provided info but I can tell you that it's not the compressor.

outside ambient 95,indoor drybulb 78,wetbulb 62,return temp 76,supply temp 64-65,I realize 82-84 on suction side is not extremely high but that gives you a 48-50 degree coil and theres not a high heat load on the coil would rather see a 40-42 degree coil.as I stated before charge has been weighed and SH is dead on.colder coil = colder air from vents, the temp of supply air is just not cool enough to keep up where I live its 95 by 10:00 with 80% humidity.I put my gauges on 5-6 units every day and normally when the systems are balanced out the highest suction pressure I see is 72-74.with 15-18 degree delta t.these 2 units are just a pain because ive thrown everything I can at them.hope this is enough info tanks again.

Is it possible that there could be an open/broken return duct in the attic or even a fresh air intake wide open? Where did you measure return readings?

ductwork on both systems in good shape, both AH are in closets neither one has a big enough return could this possibly be my problem.

not enough thought in my last reply to small return should equal lower pressures
